Marcus is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Pinsent Masons, PWC and Provenance.
He was Chair of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) from 2022 to 2025. During his tenure, he re-oriented the authority’s priorities to helping consumers get better choices and a fair deal in their most important markets; making it easier for businesses to compete, innovate and grow by tackling anti-competitive practices and monopolies; and encouraging the government to replace public and private regulation with open, competitive markets to unlock economic growth. He also initiated a broad program of reforms to make the CMA’s approach in mergers, digital markets and consumer enforcement faster and more pragmatic, and led the authority as it took on significant new powers under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act.
Previously, he was Senior Partner and Managing Director at Boston Consulting Group, where he helped a broad range of businesses drive competitive advantage, returns and growth.
In addition to his non-executive activities, Marcus advises entrepreneurs, serves on the Board of Governors of the Manchester Grammar School, and chairs the Pembroke College Cambridge Development Board.
