Biography

Carsten Nickel is a Managing Director with Teneo in London and an Adjunct Professor at Sciences Po’s Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA). His research explores how policy elites wield geopolitical expertise to shape maps, markets, and state institutions.

Previously based in Brussels and Berlin, he co-launched Teneo’s global political risk advisory service in 2013, working with investors, corporates, and public sector clients. Earlier, he was an analyst in the Europe practice of Eurasia Group and worked for a member of the German Bundestag. He started as a local news reporter. 

Carsten received a DPhil in Politics from Oxford (St Antony’s College). He holds master’s degrees in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics, and in Social Sciences from Ruhr University Bochum.
