Fay Skevington

Head of AI Alignment for Education, Department for Education.

Biography

Fay Skevington is Head of AI Alignment for Education in the UK Government’s Department for Education.

She leads the national approach to the quality and safety of generative AI in education. In January 2026, Fay delivered the UK’s Global Summit on Generative AI for Education, and published national safety standards for AI in education. These standards go beyond harmful content to address design choices, system behaviour, and social development, recognising education as a high‑stakes environment requiring stronger protections for children.

Fay’s work also covers the education‑specific foundations of AI systems, including the curation, governance, and use of training data and educational content necessary to support educational outcomes. In developing AI safety and data policy, she uses participatory methods to centre the voices of children, educators, and civil society in decisions, ensuring that those most affected by new technologies help shape how they are designed, used, and overseen.

Fay holds a BA from Oxford, an MBA from Cranfield, and is currently completing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence.
