Biography
Dr Jen-Chung Mei is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Digital Economy at the School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London. He is also a research member of the Productivity Institute.
 
Previously, Jen was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, where he worked on the UK Productivity Project. His research examined the causes of the UK’s productivity slowdown, employing both macroeconomic and micro-level analyses. During his time at Cambridge, he also supervised undergraduate students in Land Economy.
 
Jen’s research interests lie in the measurement of firm-level productivity, with a particular focus on the role of heterogeneous capital investment in UK productivity metrics. He also explores topics such as foreign direct investment, multinational enterprises, and policies for recruiting star scientists.
 
His work has been published in several leading academic journals, including the Journal of Human Capital (2025), Economica (2023, 2024), and the Journal of Economic Geography (2022), among others.
