What does Cambridge's own digital transformation experience teach us about AI implementation nationally and internationally?

This Cambridge Festival event showcases the University of Cambridge and the Bennett School of Public Policy’s leading research, teaching, and real-world impact in AI and digital policy.

Cambridge experts will examine digital transformation beyond market cycles and ask what institutional capabilities endure beyond hype and unrealistic expectations.

Starting with a short overview by Prof Dame Diane Coyle (Bennett School of Public Policy), a panel of Cambridge experts will then dissect the gap between AI promise and delivery, explore how AI and digital technologies can drive inclusive, sustainable growth, and examine how research and policy interact across local, national, and global levels.

Speakers — Dr Jeni Tennison (Beyond Data) and Dr Kathryn Chapman (Innovate Cambridge) — will spotlight leading Cambridge initiatives, from the AI & Geopolitics project challenging the prevailing “AI arms race” narrative to the new MPhil in Digital Policy, which equips policy leaders to design agile, effective regulation. They will also explore pressing issues including inequality, responsible AI and governance.

The discussion, facilitated by Dr Aleksei Turobov (Bennett School of Public Policy), will focus on how technological changes are reshaping governance structures to meet societal needs and state ambitions, linking Cambridge’s research excellence with real-world policy challenges.

This event aims to strengthen collaboration and share best practices that connect academic insight with real-world policymaking and societal impact.
