Prof Christina Beatty

Biography

Christina Beatty is a Professor of Applied Economic Geography in the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR). She is a statistician with over 33 years’ experience of undertaking applied policy and evidence-based research for central and local government. Her research interests include the intersection of labour market policy and the social security system, especially in relation to the uneven and unintended consequences of national policy decisions on different types of places. Her research has a particular focus on the spatial distribution of economic inactivity and hidden unemployment in older industrial Britain, former coalfield areas, and Britain’s seaside towns. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Employability Professionals and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
