Bennett research referenced in House of Commons report on making the UK “a truly digital state”

A new report published by the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee refers to research by the Bennett School of Public Policy in warning that the UK’s over-reliance on a few major technology providers poses an “unacceptable point of weakness” for public infrastructure.

The report “Rewiring the State: Delivering Digital Government” draws on research by Dr Aleksei Turobov lead of the AIxGeo project, to argue that achieving AI sovereignty requires building domestic capacity and embracing a multipolar world of digital rule-making.

In referencing the research, it says: “One UK-specific suggestion is for the government to ringfence a percentage, increasing over time, of non-defence AI procurement spend across the public sector for UK-owned and UK-based firms” (p41).
