Fees and funding

Fees

The Postgraduate Study admissions website provides guidance on how to estimate your annual financial commitment (i.e. University Composition Fee and living costs), and their finance overview tool will help you calculate your costs. The course fee details will be published in early September 2026, when the application window opens.

Funding your studies

The Postgraduate Study admissions website provides information on funding opportunities on offer at the University of Cambridge, and they have a funding search tool which applicants can use to identify possibly funding opportunities. A range of funding opportunities is available to support your postgraduate studies at Cambridge. In 2024-2025 about 64% of the University’s doctoral students were fully funded. Even though the competition for fully funded studentships is very intense, we encourage applicants to indicate on their application form that they would like to be considered for these centrally managed competitions.

Some applicants may also be eligible for nomination by the department for a Research Council Funding (ESRC) DTP Studentship. Details of these studentships can be found at https://www.cam-dtp.ac.uk/

When to look for funding

The University advises all applicants to look for funding opportunities at least a year before they apply / start their course. Having evidence that you have secured funding secured for the duration of your studies is an admissions requirement. If you do not have funding in place before you start your course, you will not meet the conditions of your admission and your offer of a place on the course will be withdrawn.
